Tanuki premium rice shōchū is Africa's first locally made shōchū. Our shōchū is made from rice, spring water, koji, and yeast -- fermented using traditional Japanese methods and then distilled using a pot still. Shōchū can have several flavor profiles, from deeply umami to crisp and floral. Tanuki shōchū has a floral note, but a creamy umami profile that makes it easy to drink neat, with a cube of ice, or with a splash of soda water. In summer it is lovely with a squeeze of citrus over ice and a few splashes of soda water.
Bottle size/volume: 750ml
ABV: 43%
Tasting notes:
An initial floral nose gives way to umami, complex forest-floor flavors, with a creamy finish that just hints at the rice used in fermentation.
